East LA Rep is...
EAST LOS ANGELES REPERTORY THEATRE COMPANY (East LA Rep) was founded in 2002 by a group of friends who wanted to create theater in the neighborhood of their childhoods. Using the Oregon Shakespeare Festival as its model the company set out to make East Los Angeles the epicenter of Latino theater. With Macbeth by William Shakespeare as its first production, the show toured local East Los Angeles parks with an all Latino cast. To date East LA Rep has produced a total of seventeen stage productions, including Anthology Vol. 1 which staged the work of fourteen different playwrights of Latino heritage in repertory and the world premieres of Portrait of Ten Women by Fanny García and ¿Donde Estan?/Where Are They? by Roxanne E. Sanchez.
